In the 20-plus years I’ve been creating clothes for Amaranth Designs, I’ve always focused on producing pieces that work for busy women. My customers are the type of people who know what they like to wear, and that shows up in my creations:
To help you create a wardrobe that transitions from day to night and casual to dressy, I know when to mix it up and when to stay steady. We can add punch with colours, textures, and patterns, or play around with different (but classic) cuts, but some things aren’t meant to be messed with, like sizing.
I work hard to make shopping an enjoyable experience for my loyal customers, from the feel of the fabric to the promise that the pieces will work well together and with what you might have at home—but underneath it all is creating clothes in consistent sizes so you can shop Amaranth Designs with confidence. Many of my long-time customers found me at craft sales and outdoor markets, places where try-before-you-buy was usually difficult (if not impossible!), and I want to be sure that repeat customers could grab a new item off the rack and know it was going to fit when they got it home.
That consistency in sizing is even more important in the age of online shopping. There’s nothing quite as frustrating as spending all that time browsing and then waiting for a piece to arrive, only for it to completely disappoint when you put it on.
I build all my designs around a standard size chart and you can even see the consistency in the “models” for my at-home photo shoots: My trusty dress form has been showcasing pieces on social media and my website for years (shirts, belts, and dresses oh my!), and my new addition, Eloise the mannequin, effortlessly showcases shackets, cardigans, and more.
Whether you’re grabbing items off the rack or clicking “add to cart,” you can be sure that a medium today will fit like a medium from several seasons ago. The change rooms at Brick + Mortar in Regina are pretty great, and it’s always fun to have a boutique shopping experience in my studio, but I’ll keep steady with sizing to make your life easier and your online shopping smoother.
That reliable sizing really comes in handy for markets and when the discounts are plentiful…so August is a great time to shop! I’ll be at the Weekend Drive Summer Handmade Market on August 14, and it’s once again time for a clearance sale. Plenty of items are already marked down to as low as $40, and the Breezy collection is eligible for a 50% discount online when you use the code 50off at checkout. Make the most of summer and your money!

It’s once again Mental Health Week here in Canada (May 2-8), and I am doing my part to spread the message and support some of the folks doing the work right here at home.
This is the third year for the Amaranth Designs Annual Heart Sweater Charity Campaign, and we are once again supporting the work of Family Service Regina.
