A Natural Fit
Each year, I reveal a spring/summer collection that is based on a theme—this title conveys my thought process of how the designs came together. Often, it hones in on the kinds of designs I’ve come up with or perhaps the colours or patterns and how they are intended to make you feel. This spring, however, I’m focusing on fabric.
Fabric has always been at the heart of my designs—I choose Canadian fabrics that feel as good as they look, with patterns and textures that stand out from the crowd. This spring is no exception, and I’m taking it a step further.
My clients have recently been asking me to start sourcing more eco-friendly fabrics for my designs. Part of the reason they shop local is because it means a smaller environmental footprint, and they want to ensure the fabrics they wear are sustainable and made with eco-friendly processes, resulting in more efficient water usage, less pollution, and lower carbon emissions.
I accepted the challenge and, in response, I am releasing my collection, “A Natural Fit” this month. The fabrics I’ve chosen are from suppliers in Vancouver and Montreal who specialize in sustainable, high-quality textiles. I’m using natural fabrics like linen, cotton, and bamboo jersey, as well as EcoVero™ fabric, a more sustainable viscose made using sustainable wood from controlled sources.
The textures may be different than previous collections, but the dedication to rich colours, unique patterns, special touches—check out buttons made from coconut! —and a flattering fit remain.
While the fabrics are different than the knits I usually work with—I’ve learned to embrace the character of wrinkles in linen, for example—I’ve found that the quality and feel are exceptional.
Environmentally friendly and fashionable don’t have to be mutually exclusive. You can easily be eco chic and feel good about your role in helping the planet. Just check out the designs in the “A Natural Fit” collection to see for yourself here
And, as always, if you have any questions about the fabrics or designs or you want to make an appointment to try them on for yourself, drop me a line here
Happy spring!

That consistency in sizing is even more important in the age of online shopping. There’s nothing quite as frustrating as spending all that time browsing and then waiting for a piece to arrive, only for it to completely disappoint when you put it on.
