Even though nothing magically changes on January 1, there’s something in the symbolism of starting a new page—or even better, a new calendar. (And after a year like 2020, it’s especially nice to toss the old calendar in the garbage…or the fireplace.) With the experience and lessons of the past in our back pockets, we get to think about new goals, and it can feel like a world of possibility has opened back up. Maybe you choose a word for the year. Maybe you do resolutions. Maybe it’s just an intention for you how you want to approach the year. What’s your plan for 2021?
If you’re thinking about revamping your wardrobe, focusing on sustainable fashion, or just planning to support local, look no further—Amaranth Designs services will keep you covered.
One of the things I didn’t get to do much in 2020 was custom fashion design, because it’s usually for big events—weddings, graduation parties—but it doesn’t have to be. Maybe with more hope on the horizon, I’ll get a chance to do some more custom pieces from scratch. This is a great way to get a unique look. Bring me your inspiration, whether it’s a whole outfit or parts of different pieces that you want all together, and in just a few visits to the studio you can have a one-of-a kind outfit built for your body in colours and fabric you love.
But what if you already have that perfect piece and you want it in every colour of the rainbow? Good news: I can duplicate garments! With more than 20 years’ experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all so I can look at your existing clothes (coats, pants, dresses, tops, whatever you love) to create a copy. Whether you want more versions of something in good shape or want to make sure there’s a replacement before a well-loved piece falls apart, I can help your favourite clothes live on. If you can handle construction but need a pattern to follow, I can help with pattern making too.
If you’re trying to make the most of what you already have, I can also help. Most of us have stuff in our closet that could be our new favourite with some alterations (hemming, zippers, all that fun stuff) or a little extra tailoring. Giving pieces a second life is a great way to keep your fashion sustainable. I can update things that look a bit dated or get a more flattering fit for something that looked better on the rack. Or if what’s already in your house is a pile of fabric and a pattern that you’ve given up on actually sewing yourself, I can do garment construction for you! Perfect for that New Year’s resolution to declutter.
Since last spring I’ve enjoyed creating new pieces with a more comfy-and-cozy vibe and tried my hand at lots of new cuts and styles, but I must admit I’m looking forward to returning with a new wholesale collection in September. Something tells me that clothes that transition well are just what we need when more folks are back in the office but never want to go back to the stuffy and uncomfortable dress clothes they used to wear. You might not be able to wear pajama pants all day anymore, but Amaranth Designs collections are all about combining style and comfort!
It looks like I have plenty to look forward to this year, and I hope I’ll get to see more of your smiling faces too. Get in touch for all your custom needs, from alterations to the special pieces, and shop any time on my online shop: https://amaranthdesigns.ca/collections/all

That consistency in sizing is even more important in the age of online shopping. There’s nothing quite as frustrating as spending all that time browsing and then waiting for a piece to arrive, only for it to completely disappoint when you put it on.
